Alibaba looks to global game distribution

Alibaba Games has announced that it is to spearhead efforts to create a new mobile gaming ecosystem. The gaming division of the Chinese e-commerce company is to invest ¥1 billion (€134.6 million/£116.8 m/$144.8 m) as part of its plans to establish a new international distribution system for mobile games.

The concept behind Alibaba’s new initiative involves making it easier for developers to reach beyond their regional markets. For example, Alibaba wants to see developers in Russia and China using its ecosystem to distribute games to Europe and the Middle East.

In order to deliver its vision, Alibaba has partnered with ONEMT, TFJoy, Efun and Mail.ru Group, forming the Global Strategic Alliance of Game Distribution.
