The HTC One (M8) will be updated to Android M, a HTC executive has confirmed on Twitter. Android M is the next version of Google’s mobile operating system, and is likely to be released in the third quarter of 2015.

Confirmation of the Android M update was provided by Mo Versi, in response to a customer’s question on Twitter. Versi is the vice president of product management at HTC, so there are no concerns about the reliability of the information.
Even without Versi’s confirmation, it was always likely that the HTC One (M8) would be updated to Android M. Earlier in 2015, the Taiwanese company updated the original HTC One – which was released in 2013 – to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Although there is a perception that Android devices receive poor update support, that is no longer the case, at least as far as flagship smartphones are concerned.
Major manufacturers tend to provide their flagship smartphones with Android updates for a least two years. Therefore, it was widely expected that the HTC One (M8) would be updated to Android M.
It is nonetheless good to have confirmation of the update from someone well-placed within HTC. Versi’s tweet will provide reassurance to existing owners, as well as anyone looking out for a good deal on last year’s flagship smartphone from HTC.
