Sony smartphones look set to start receiving Android 7.0 Nougat from October. The information has come from a leak via Sony Slovakia and reveals that the Sony Xperia X Performance and Sony Xperia XZ are first in line for the update.
Slides from an internal company presentation show a plan for the Sony Xperia X Performance and Sony Xperia XZ to receive Android Nougat ‘around October’.
Following this initial roll-out, the Sony Xperia X and Sony Xperia X Compact will being to be updated to Android Nougat around November. They should then be followed the following month by the Sony Xperia Z5 series, Sony Xperia Z3+ and Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet.
The Sony Xperia XA and Sony XA Ultra are also set to be updated to Android Nougat, with the roll-out being pencilled in for ‘early 2017’
While it is not news that these Android smartphones are going to receive Android Nougat, previously there was no information about the timing of any roll-outs.
Given how eager many device owners are to find out when their products will be updated, some will argue that Sony should have released their full road map publicly. The reason why companies like Sony are often reluctant to do so is that there are many factors that can affect the development and roll-out of updates, resulting in delays to initial dates.
