Google has announced that Android Pay is to begin its UK roll-out. The service will work across the country and will be supported anywhere that contactless payments are offered.
A number of prominent UK financial organisations have signed up to support Android Pay already. Deals have been concluded with Bank of Scotland, First Direct, Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds Bank, M&S Bank, MBNA and Nationwide Building Society.
Unsurprisingly, Google has stated that new financial institutions will be added in the future. No precise timescale has been given, but a post on the Android Pay blog stated, “New banks [are] being added all the time,” suggesting there may not be long to wait before the service expands further.
The news isn’t a surprise, with reports last month emerging that Google was planning to launch the Android Pay in the UK towards the end of March.
