HTC has followed up the launch of its 2016 flagship smartphone, the HTC 10, with the surprise announcement of a new handset – the HTC One S9. The new device has appeared on the company’s German website, with a retail price of €499 (£390/$565).
The pricing of the device is below the cost of a typical flagship smartphone but is more expensive than a midrange device. It appears to be positioned similarly to last year’s HTC One A9.
Rather than being a successor to the HTC One A9, though, the forthcoming smartphone is more likely a replacement for the HTC One M8S.
The HTC One M8S was released in 2015, essentially as a revised edition of HTC’s flagship smartphone from the previous year. In the case of the HTC One S9, there are visual similarities to the HTC One M9 flagship from 2015, in addition to the model names being alike.
