Corning has announced the latest version of its tempered glass, which has been designed to withstand drops from increased heights. Devices made from Corning Gorilla Glass 5 will be able to survive drops from what the company describes as ‘selfie height’, or 1.6 meters, 80 percent of the time.
According to Corning, the latest revision of Gorilla Glass has been tested whilst being dropped onto what the company describes as ‘rough surfaces’.
Corning Gorilla Glass is widely used on premium smartphones. The latest advancements are likely to receive a very positive reaction, given the understandable worries that many smartphone users have about dropping their expensive pieces of tech.
As reported in research conducted via a Toluna Quicksurvey panel, drops occur at least once a year for more than 85% of smartphone owners.
