Google has quietly expanded the European availability of its digital movie store, with the service now offered in Belgium and Switzerland. There is also further global expansion, as customers in the Philippines and Uganda now have access to Google Play Movies too.
There has been no major announcement of the expansion, but those living in the four countries concerned can now buy or rent movies from the Play Store. TV shows are not available, however, although that is not a particularly big surprise, as currently only Australia, Japan, the UK and US currently have access to TV programming.
All four countries already had full access to paid Google Play apps. In addition, Belgium, Switzerland and the Philippines were also able to buy content from Google Play Books.
Both Google Play Music and Google Play Music All Access (the monthly subscription offering) were already available to customers in Belgium and Switzerland.
The new additions further increase Google Play Movies’ availability in Europe, with the service now on offer in a total of 15 European states.
