It is that time of year again when speculation begins as to what the next version of Android will be called. On this occasion the rumour mill has been kick-started by none other than Hiroshi Lockheimer, Senior Vice President for Android, Chrome OS and Google Play, who posted an Oreo-themed image on social media.
Lockheimer’s Twitter post features a GIF of an Oreo cake, accompanied by a thinking emoji.
The contribution almost certainly is not a cryptic indication that Google has already decided to name the next version of its mobile operating system Android 8.0 Oreo. Instead, it is much more likely that Lockheimer is having a little fun, well aware that the Oreo name has long been a favoured option in the Android community.
