LG L Bello and LG L Fino budget Android smartphones

LG to unveil two budget quad-core Android smartphones

LG is getting ready to launch two new cut-price quad-core Android smartphones. The company will show off the new devices for the first time at IFA 2014 in Berlin, which gets underway on 5th September.

The LG L Bello will feature a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and a 5-inch IPS display, whilst the more basic LG L Fino will offer a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and a 4.5-inch IPS display. Both smartphones will run Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Earlier this week it was revealed that LG intends to standardise its user interface for all new Android smartphones and tablets. For forthcoming devices, the South Korean manufacturer will use the same edition of LG UX that is used on the popular LG G3 handset.

The new devices will be released in what LG describes as emerging 3G markets’, aimed specifically at teenagers and those who do not already own a smartphone.

Latin American markets will be the first to see the LG L Fino and LG L Bello. Although the devices will also be sold in many other parts of the world, with the two smartphones to be released in unspecified countries in Europe, Asia and CIS.

LG claim that their research has indicated that the camera is one of the features most important to teenagers and first-time smartphone buyers. The LG L Fino will include an 8 megapixel camera, whilst the LG L Bello will offer a camera with the same resolution, but with the addition of autofocus.

An 8 MP main camera is perfectly reasonable as far as budget Android smartphones are concerned. By way of comparison, the Motorola Moto G features a 5 MP shooter, although camera specs are not necessarily good indicators of real-world performance.

Both phones will also include front-facing cameras. The LG L Fino will feature a basic VGA camera, whilst the LG L Bello will offer a 1 MP forward shooter.

It is unlikely the front-facing camera of either smartphone will produce decent selfies. The resolution is perhaps a little surprising, given the market that LG is targeting.

By contrast, the font-facing camera on the Motorola Moto G offers up a marginally better resolution of 1.3 MP.

Overall, though, both the LG L Fino and LG L Bello feature a very reasonable set of specs for budget Android smartphones. Just how reasonable will be determined by pricing of the two handsets, which will be revealed closer to launch.
