LineageOS is proving that there is still plenty of enthusiasm for custom ROMs amongst the Android community, with an impressive rate of adoption. Despite having only been officially launched on 24 December last year, there has been over half a million active installs of the burgeoning operating system.
At the time of writing, official statistics from LineageOS developers show over 535,000 active installs.
LineageOS was released as a response to the collapse of Cyanogen Inc. Originally CyanogenMod had been a popular open source community ROM, but a company was later formed in order to commercialise the product.
With the failure of Cyanogen, the LineageOS project emerged as a fork of CyanogenMod.
