A classic Windows game has been launched on Android, with the release of Solitaire as a mobile app. The new offering has been named Microsoft Solitaire Collection, and supports five variants of the popular card game: Klondike, Spider, FreeCell, Pyramid and Tripeak.
For many years Solitaire has been a popular source of
procrastination enjoyment for Windows users. Its cult status is likely to lead to large numbers of people downloading the Android version, even if just out of curiosity.
The game has been modernised for the smartphone era, with the ability to play against friends. There is also the option to connect to a Microsoft account and gain Xbox Live achievements.
Cloud support means that games can be continued across multiple devices, including those running Windows 10 or iOS.
Unlike the popular Windows edition, the new Android release of Microsoft Solitaire contains adverts. But for a fee, there is the option to disable those adverts and gain access to additional features.
Until the end of 2016, Microsoft is offering a free one-month trial of the premium edition of the game.
Microsoft Solitaire Collection is available to download from Google Play and is compatible with devices running Android 4.4 KitKat and above.
