There is some great news for fans of Nintendo today, with the international release of the company’s first smartphone app. The social app, named Miitomo, is now available to download from Google Play.
The app centres around Nintendo’s Mii characters, which gained prominence when the Nintendo Wii console was released. Miitomo users are able to create their own Mii, which can be used to interact with the Miis of friends, inside a virtual world.
The release of Miitomo has captured a lot of attention online today, with the app trending on Twitter.
Initially released in Nintendo’s domestic market, Japan, earlier in March, Miitomo is now also available in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Ireland, Luxembourg, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States.
Miitomo is free to download from the Play Store and currently has an average review rating of 3.7 out of 5. Nintendo’s creation seems to have made a very good early impression amongst those who have had a chance to get to grips with the app.
Most of the negative reviews of Miitomo have come from users who have found that the app is currently incompatible with their smartphone.
Difficulties with particular devices is not surprising given the app it at a relatively early stage of development. Nintendo should work to improve compatibility as future updates are released.
