The start-up behind the Nextbit Robin Android smartphone has been acquired by gaming specialist Razer. Nextbit’s team will join Razer as a result of the deal.
It appears to be an acquisition that has largely been driven by talent, given that Nextbit’s staff will be moving over to work for Razer.
But there is good news for anyone who has purchased a Nextbit Robin, with confirmation that the device will still be actively supported after the acquisition.
The decision to continue supporting the Nextbit Robin could be driven by a desire to attract positive publicity, with many takeovers often resulting in abandoned products.
In this case, though, there is a distinct possibility that Razer itself could be looking to enter the smartphone market, possibly with a gaming-centric handset.
