Samsung Galaxy A Series (2017) set for 5 January launch

Samsung fans will not have to wait long into the new year to see the company launch its first smartphones of 2017. The Samsung Galaxy A Series (2017) will be launched on 5 January and is set to include three new handsets.

The new devices are the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017), Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) and Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017). All three will be largely identical in terms of specs, with the main difference between the smartphones being screen size.

A date of 5 January is confirmed in launch event information that has been distributed by Samsung. And unlike some invites, there is nothing cryptic here – it is made very clear that the event will be for the Samsung Galaxy A Series (2017).

There is no great secrecy surrounding the release, in general. Lee Jui Sian, Samsung Malaysia’s VP of Mobile and IT Business Unit, has gone as far as confirming that the series will be IP68-rated for dust and water resistance.

The invites are for a launch event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. What is not known is whether there will be other events staged elsewhere in the world.

Last month Android Wafer reported that western Europe would likely see the Samsung Galaxy A Series (2017) outed in January, so the information released so far is very much in line with expectations.

One change from previous editions of the series is that the 2017 offering is set to be a more premium affair. That will be reflected in the pricing, which is likely to start at €349 (£295/$365), for the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017).
