Samsung is expecting its Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch to deliver big sales numbers. It has been reported that the South Korean company is predicting that it’s forthcoming wearable device will see 61.3% more shipments than all of its smartwatches and fitness bands recorded together in 2015.
Market research company IDC reports that Samsung sold 3.1 million wearables in 2015. According to the South Korean publication The Electronic Times, Samsung is now targeting 5 million shipments per year of the Samsung Gear S3 alone.
Officials within Samsung believe that the company’s latest smartwatch has a significant edge of rival products from the likes of Apple . They hope that this perceived competitive advantage, alongside rapid growth in the wearables market, can deliver a big jump in sales.
Current indications are that the Samsung Gear S3 will launch at the end of October.
There will be two main editions of the new smartwatch: the Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Samsung Gear S3 Frontier. An LTE version of the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier will also be sold, although this will only be released in select markets.
