It has emerged that ASUS may be planning to discontinue its line of smartwatches following disappointing sales. Beginning in 2014, a range of ASUS ZenWatch products have been released, with the Taiwanese company attempting to establish itself in the wearables market.

ASUS has confirmed that it has abandoned plans to launch two of its 2016 smartphones in North America. The ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe has been pulled in Canada, while the standard ASUS Zenfone 3 will not be launched in the US.
As has become traditional for ASUS, the Taiwanese company has shown off some of its biggest products for the year, ahead of the Computex trade show in its home country. The most surprising device ASUS unveiled was also the most interesting, and it took the form of a home robot called Zenbo.
Ahead to this year’s COMPUTEX expo, ASUS looks set to announce a range of new Android devices. The company has confirmed that it will be holding a press event on Monday 30 Many – one day before COMPUTEX 2016 gets underway.
The first ASUS ZenWatch, which was powered by Android Wear, will be followed by a device that does not run Google’s wearable operating system. ASUS will not be abandoning Android Wear entirely, though, but hopes to achieve better battery life via the use of an alternative OS.
ASUS chairman Jonney Shih has offered a very interesting comment about the company’s next generation smartwatch. Shih said that a key priority was improving battery life, and in order to do so, ASUS would look closely at the operating system its uses in future ZenWatch products.
ASUS has given strong indications that the centrepiece of its CES 2015 trade show activity will be the launch of a new smartphone, with a focus on photography. The company has released a video containing Morse code and a tagline, seemingly designed to provide a couple of major hints about what it has in store.
The ASUS ZenWatch will go on sale on 23rd December in the UK. Initially, the Taiwanese electronics giant will supply the new smartwatch exclusively to Dixons Retail, meaning it will only be available from Currys and PC World stores.
Google is set to release its first device powered by Android TV – a platform that has been built to offer both a smart TV and gaming experience. Nexus Player has been developed as part of a collaboration with ASUS and will feature music, games, TV shows, movies and other video content.
The Twitter account of ASUS has offered a big indication that the Taiwanese company is on the verge of showing off its very first Android smartwatch. An image has been posted showing what appears to be the outline of a smartwatch, alongside a reference to the fast-approaching IFA Berlin trade show.
