Developer Preview 5 of Android 7.0 Nougat is now available, as the full consumer release of the mobile operating system gets ever-closer. The new edition can be accessed by those enrolled in the Android beta programme, with all preview devices supported.
David Burke, who is the vice president of engineering for Android, has described Developer Preview 5 as containing ”near-final system updates”. Therefore, those who are part of the Android beta programme are unlikely to be surprised by anything contained in the final consumer release of Android Nougat.
For typical users, the latest release does not offer anything of significance over the previous edition. But developers are being advised to a submit updates to Google Play, after compiling against the final Android Nougat APIs and testing their apps in Developer Preview 5.
The team behind Android Nougat are attempting to ensuring that when the OS is released to consumers, existing apps are fully compatible.
