ASUS has confirmed that it has abandoned plans to launch two of its 2016 smartphones in North America. The ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe has been pulled in Canada, while the standard ASUS Zenfone 3 will not be launched in the US.

In Canada, plans for the launch of the ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe appeared to be well advanced. A price of CAD$699 had been set, with retailers such as Newegg, Staples, Canada Computers, NCIX and Best Buy scheduled to stock the device.

Unlike the high-end ASUS Zenfone 3 Deluxe, the standard ASUS Zenfone 3, with its mid-range specs, serves a somewhat different market segment.

ASUS has not provided reasons for the cancellations of the two North American releases.
