The HTC Vive virtual reality headset will be available to test and order from a select number of prominent UK retailers. Deals have been concluded with three difference retailers, covering five sites in the UK.
Currently HTC has retail deals in place with Currys PC World, Overclockers UK and Scan Computers International, with the company’s VR headset to be made available at the following locations:
- Currys PC World, Leeds (Birstall)
- Currys PC World, Reading
- Currys PC World, Tottenham Court Road
- Overclockers UK, Newcastle-under-Lyme
- Scan Computers International, Bolton
The number of places where UK consumers can go to try out the HTC Vive will therefore be quite limited, at least initially. If the headset becomes a hit, it is likely that the above list will expand greatly, and there is still the possibility of more outlets being added ahead of the May launch.
There will be competition to the HTC Vive from products such as the Oculus Rift and the PlayStation VR.
Although many people within the industry believe that the HTC Vive will comfortably outperform its rivals, HTC’s VR offering is also more costly, with an initial price tag of £689 (€880/$995) in the UK.
