Reports have emerged out of China that the Huawei Mate 9 could feature 20 megapixel dual cameras on the rear of the device. If true, this would be a large increase in resolution over the recently-launched Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus, both of which feature 12 MP dual camera set-ups.
The Chinese manufacturer partnered with Leica in the case of the Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus, placing a large emphasis on camera performance.
Moving to a bigger-resolution sensor with the Huawei Mate 9 could potentially break with the current industry trend of sacrificing megapixel counts in order to increase the pixel size.
It is possible that the Huawei Mate 9 could offer the best of both worlds. As the device will be much larger than a typical smartphone, a bigger sensor could be included, although this may necessitate a higher retail price.
