It is no secret that Huawei is planning to announce new hardware on 1 September, and it has emerged that a completely new midrange smartphone series will be seen at the event. This is a sector of the market that Huawei has not focused on much in recent years, as the Chinese manufacturer has mainly concentrated on producing high-end devices.
Huawei has its more-affordable Honor sub-brand, which has been used to separate its midrange devices from its main brand.
Little is known about the new midrange smartphone series, but it has been reported by Gizmochina that a Huawei executive has confirmed that one handset from the series will be launched on 1 September.
It will be interesting to see whether Huawei wishes to further protect its main brand as a premium-only line, and launches another sub-brand to sit alongside Honor.
A device that almost certainly will not appear on 1 September is the much-anticipated Huawei Mate 9. As previously reported by Android Wafer, this handset is likely to launch much later in the year.
