Sailfish OS has been ratified for use across Russian government departments. It is a development that means Sailfish becomes the only mobile operating system to be officially verified for governmental use in the country.
Developed by Finnish company Jolla – which is staffed by ex-Nokia employees – Sailfish is an alternative to Android, although as a platform it has struggled to gain traction.
While Sailfish has been released on a small number of consumer devices, the version that the government will use has been tailored specially for the Russian state.
The news is a major boost to Jolla, as the Russian recognition has the potential to increase the profile of Sailfish significantly.
