Anyone wanting to buy a Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) or Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) may not have long to wait, although the cost may prove somewhat higher than they had been anticipating. Technology journalist Roland Quandt, who is based in Berlin, has said that the devices will be released in western Europe in January.
Quandt’s retail sources are reporting that the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 will be priced at around €349 (£295/$365), while the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) will cost about €449 (£375/$470).
These prices are relatively high for mid-range devices, and could see the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) costing close to the amount of the Samsung Galaxy S7. Currently the Samsung Galaxy S7 is selling for little over €500 in Germany, but that figure is likely to fall once the Samsung Galaxy S8 is released.
In defence of the pricing, Samsung is likely to point to an improved experience offered by the 2017 A series.
Recently an early build of the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 leaked in the form of a YouTube hands-on. The video shows a near-premium device, that appears to have many similarities to the Samsung Galaxy S7.
But transforming the A series into higher-end products risks leaving Samsung struggling to compete in the mid-range smartphone market.
