The Samsung Galaxy S8 is reportedly set to feature a large display, but use an overall footprint that ensures the device remains relatively small. This is not a surprise, as the news cements one of the smartphone trends of 2017.
Although artificial intelligence will be a major talking point in 2017, screen-to-body ratio will also receive a lot of attention. It is an area that has been much discussed ever since the ‘bezel-less’ Xiaomi Mi Max was released last year.
A leak from a case maker appears to have revealed the dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S8. Despite possibly having a 5.7-inch screen, specs reveal that the smartphone is not as tall as last year’s Samsung Galaxy S7, and only slightly wider.
For comparison purposes, the display on the Samsung Galaxy S7 was only 5.1 inches.
There is a similar trend with the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. In this case the smartphone is slightly taller and wider than last year’s Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, but not by much.
For anyone prepared to accept a unit that is only marginally bigger in the case of the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, the reward could be a 6.3-inch screen. This would represent a 0.8-inch increase over the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
