Samsung has released a video on social media of its efforts to curate national anthems from around the world, to produce a new melody. The creation, which is simply titled ‘The Anthem’, has been released ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games, which will be staged in Rio, Brazil from 5 August.
What is particularly impressive about Samsung’s creation is that it appears seamless. There is no sense that what you are listening to is a number of anthems spliced together, despite the lyrics being in a variety of languages.
To emphasise a spirit of global unity, performers in the advert sing lines from countries other than their own. The video begins with lyrics from the Botswana national anthem being sung by a girl from Australia.
Unsurprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge plays a large role in the advert. The Android smartphone starts off in the hands of the Australian girl and travels around the world as the anthem is performed.
There are also a number of internationally-renowned athletes to keep an eye out for, with Tom Daley, Shelley Watts, Arnaud Assoumani, Margret Rumat Rumat Hassan, Gabriel Medina and Alysia Montano all featuring.
