Although it has not been confirmed officially that HTC is making two smartphones for Google in 2016, the growing evidence means the eventual announcement is little more than a formality. Now filings linked to the two devices have been placed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the US communications regulator.

The apparent leaks of specs for two forthcoming Nexus smartphones, developed by HTC, have been followed by one of the devices appearing on a popular benchmarking service. The larger of the two smartphones – which has been code named Marlin, or M1 – has shown up on Geekbench, listed under the title ‘google marlin’.
