A leak has emerged which lists one of Xiaomi’s 2017 flagship smartphones as running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The spec sheet in question reports that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will run an edition of Android from 2015.
The leak has started to do the rounds, and while it is possible that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will feature Android Marshmallow, overall Android Wafer is not confident about the authenticity of the spec sheet at this stage.
Xiaomi will overlay its own software MIUI on top of Android, an issue that could be a factor in determining which Android version will be used.
It is possible that the company could claim that functionality of MIUI is so advanced, there is no need to include Android 7.0 Nougat. This type of argument has also been used by Nubia, another Chinese company, with some of its handset releases.
Other information within the leak is not consistent with previous rumours, however.
The leak states that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. Prior rumours had suggested that this would not be the case, and it is known that any device launching with this chipset could face delays.
