At the time of its launch, the bezel-less Xiaomi Mi Mix appeared to be a somewhat experimental product. But following an enthusiastic industry response, Xiaomi is working on a successor that will offer even more breakthrough technology.
According to analyst Pan Jiutang, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is set to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner.
There is some evidence to support the claims of Pan, who is a well-respected Chinese industry insider.
Although at first glance such technology might seem somewhat futuristic, it was actually recently demonstrated by Chinese company Goodix, at the Mobile World Congress trade show.
And Xiaomi is not the first smartphone maker to be linked with in-display fingerprint scanners.
There have also been rumours that Apple will feature the technology in the iPhone 8. However, analyst Sun Changxu has claimed that a domestic Chinese company will deploy an in-display fingerprint scanner, before Apple’s inclusion of the system in its 2017 iPhone.
